Upcoming Medicine and Compassion Course
 
A conference on Medicine and Compassion will be hosted by Dr. Shlim and Dr. David A. Shore at the Harvard School of Public Health in

Boston, Massachusetts July 7-9, 2005.

The course will feature Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, along with Harvey Fineberg, MD, PhD, who is the President of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science. Also speaking will be David R. Shlim, MD, David A. Shore, PhD, and Daniel Goleman, PhD (author of Emotional Intelligence, Destructive Emotions, and several other books.

The conference will explore the origin of compassion and whether compassion is a quality that can be trained and improved. We will also explore the benefits of focusing on compassion, both for the caregiver, the patient, and the institution itself. Methods for directly improving one’s own compassion will be taught by Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche.
